"You're not wearing a whole lot of clothes, but it's family place." Magnolia Pictures has released the first official trailer for an indie comedy film titled Support the Girls, about a group of women who work at a highway-side "sports bar with curves" - basically Hooters, but not really because that brand is trademarked. International Trailer for Hu Bo's Acclaimed 'An Elephant Sitting Still'

An Elephant Sitting Still Trailer
"The world is a wasteland…" An international trailer has arrived online for the highly acclaimed film An Elephant Sitting Still, a film by Chinese filmmaker Hu Bo. This is Bo's first & final film, as he tragically took his own life last year after finishing the film. It premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this year, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize and a Best First Feature "Special Mention", and it has played at numerous other festivals including New Directors/New Films in NYC, plus the Sydney and Edinburgh Film Festivals, and is heading to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival next. The film actually runs nearly 4 hours in total, and tells a story across one day, linking the stories of various characters in one town. The focus is on bullying and the way people affect each other. Starring Yuchang PengYu ZhangUvin Wang, and Congxi Li. This brief trailer does have English subtitles, but it's all about the filmmaking that makes it a must see for cinephiles.
Here's the first international trailer (+ poster) for Hu Bo's An Elephant Sitting Still, from YouTube

An Elephant Sitting Still
In the northern Chinese city of Manzhouli, they say there is an elephant that simply sits and ignores the world. Manzhouli becomes an obsession for the protagonists of this film, a longed-for escape from the downward spiral in which they find themselves. Among them is schoolboy Bu, on the run after pushing Shuai down the stairs, who was bullying him. Bu's classmate Ling has run away from her mother and fallen for the charms of her teacher. Shuai's older brother Cheng feels responsible for the suicide of a friend. And finally, along with many other characters whose fates are inextricably bound together, there's Mr. Wang, a sprightly pensioner whose son wants to send him to a home. In virtuoso visual compositions, the film tells the story of one single suspenseful day from dawn to dusk, when the train to Manzhouli is set to depart. An Elephant Sitting Still is both written and directed by Chinese filmmaker Hu Bo, his feature directorial debut after a few short films and novels. Hu Bo passed away last year, this is his final film. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. It still has no US release date set yet - stay tuned.

First Trailer for 'Crystal Swan' About a Young Female DJ from Belarus

First Trailer for 'Crystal Swan' About a Young Female DJ from Belarus

Crystal Swan Trailer
"I want to see the birthplace of house music." This looks fantastic! Watch the first trailer for a film titled Crystal Swan from Belarus, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Darya Zhuk. This is premiering at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival starting at the end of this week - I'll be there, and this is one of my highlights. Set in 1996, Crystal Swan is about a young Belarusian woman named Evelina who is trying desperately to get a visa to the USA so she can pursue her dreams of becoming a DJ. However, a typo in her application forces her to figure things out and possibly cause everything to fall apart. Alina Nasibullina stars, and the cast includes Ivan MulinYury BorisovSvetlana Anikey, & Ilya Kapanets. This reminds me of Mia Hansen-Løve's excellent film about a young DJ called Eden, but there is a bit more dry humor in this one. And I can't wait to see it, this looks like it might be a major discovery if it's as good as this trailer promises.
Here's the first official trailer for Darya Zhuk's Crystal Swan, direct from YouTube:
 Crystal Swan Film
Young Evelina has a law degree, but her dream is to travel to the USA and earn a living as a professional DJ. It’s 1996, however, and the girl is living in post-Soviet Minsk. The country is suffering an economic crisis with high unemployment, and its citizens receive payment in kind. In order to obtain a visa and fulfill her dream, Evelina needs to provide evidence at the embassy that she has a permanent job. But then fortuitous events lead her to a backwater village where her destiny interlocks for a time with a local family planning a wedding… Crystal Swan, originally titled Khrustal, is directed by Belarusian filmmaker Darya Zhuk, making her feature directorial debut after a number of shorts previously. The screenplay is written by Helga Landauer and Darya Zhuk. It will premiere at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this summer. No other official release has been set, the film is still looking for a distributor. Stay tuned. First impression?

Dave Bautista in Teaser for 'Final Score' Action Movie Set in a Stadium

Final Score Trailer
"It's all about to kick off." Sky Cinema has debuted an official teaser trailer for an action film titled Final Score, from British director Scott Mann (Down Amongst the Dead MenThe Tournament, and Heist). This film seems like kind of a remake of Sudden Death (even with the same kind of cheesy title), that actual film from the 90s with Jean-Claude Van Damme where they take over a hockey arena. But this time it's a football stadium in England. Which is why this teaser is being released during the World Cup. Only one man can save all the footballs fans - and he is Drax. Er, sorry. Dave Bautista stars in this, along with Pierce BrosnanRay StevensonMartyn FordRalph BrownAlexandra Dinu, and Lucy Gaskell. This actually doesn't look bad, though I know it's just a teaser. I kind of want to see this, hopefully it's not so bad.
Here's the first teaser trailer for Scott Mann's Final Score, direct from Sky Cinema's YouTube:

Final Score Trailer
A group of heavily armed criminals take control of a stadium packed with 35,000 football fans. Ex-soldier Michael Knox (Dave Bautista) is forced to use skills from his military background and everything at his disposal to save the spectators, including the life of a fallen comrade’s daughter. Final Score is directed by British filmmaker Scott Mann, of the films Down Amongst the Dead MenThe Tournament, and Heistpreviously, and some TV work as well. It's worth a look just to check out another Netflix film.

Rosy Trailer
"I'm seeing that girl that I told you about… I'm scared I'm not doing this in the right way." The Orchard has debuted an official trailer for an odd little film titled Rosy, a dark comedy noir thriller about a socially awkward young man who kidnaps an aspiring actress in hopes she will fall in love with him. This is either very poorly timed, or perhaps an appropriately timed film showing how horrible this is and how unfunny kidnapping (even for love) is. Hopefully. Talented young actor Nat Wolff (from HereditaryPaper TownsDeath Note) stars, along with Stacy Martin (from NymphomaniacGodard Mon Amour), plus a full cast including Johnny KnoxvilleTony Shalhoub, and Sky Ferreira. I really don't know what to make of this, seems like a very odd mix of tones and plot twists and weird things galore. Unsure if it's worth a watch.

ALPHA - Official Trailer #2 (HD)

Alpha Movie Trailer
"Leaders are born from survival." Whoa. Sony has released a new trailer for the movie Alpha, which was originally set for release in March but then delayed until August this year. We featured the first trailer for this last year, almost a year ago, but the studio freaked. This new trailer is much different - selling it more as an uplifting tale like one of those fun nature documentaries. Very interesting pivot. This adventure follows the story of Zeta, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, a young man injured on a bison hunt left for dead. He befriends a lone wolf and together they figure out how to survive. The full cast includes Natassia MaltheLeonor VarelaJóhannes Haukur JóhannessonMercedes de la Zerda, and Jens Hultén. I can't believe they're actually trying to sell this as the story of the first dog, that's some serious pandering. Oh well.

The Producers Trailer
"We've got to find the worst play ever written!" Studiocanal UK has debuted a short new trailer for a 4K restoration re-release of Mel Brooks' original comedy classic The Producers, which first hit cinemas in 1968. They're celebrating the film's 50th anniversary, and putting it back in theaters for one day only this August (in the UK). There's no US plans yet, but we expect to hear something soon. Brooks' The Producersis about two producers who decide to make a flop Broadway show since it will make them more money than a hit. They go on to produce the hilarious show Springtime for HitlerGene Wilder stars in the film, along with Zero Mostel as his producer cohort, with Kenneth MarsDick ShawnLorenzo St. DuBoisLee MeredithEstelle WinwoodChristopher Hewett, and Andreas Voutsinas. For more info on the UK re-release, read the Independent's article. For hopes of a US release, follow @TCM.
Producers Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom make money by producing a sure-fire flop. The Producers is both written and directed by iconic American filmmaker Mel Brooks, his very first feature film before going on to make so many other great comedies. The Producers first premiered in Pittsburgh in November of 1967, but that was considered a disaster, so the film didn't get any wider release nationwide until 1968. According to Brooks, after the film was completed, Embassy executives refused to release it as being in "bad taste." To celebrate the 50th anniversary, Studiocanal is re-releasing the 4K restoration in cinemas for one day only on August 5th. The feature will also include a very special Mel Brooks introduction from Turner Classic Movies. No details on any US re-release yet, but stay tuned for news. Who wants to see this again?

Dumbo Movie Teaser
"We're all family here, no matter how small." Disney has dropped a stunning first teaser trailer for the live-action Dumbo movie, about the elephant that can fly. Did you forget they were making this? Well, surprise! Here it is! Dumbo is directed by iconic filmmaker Tim Burton, who has been working with Disney ever since Alice in Wonderland and most recently made Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. This new Disney Dumbo adventure features an exciting ensemble cast: Danny DeVitoEva GreenColin FarrellNico ParkerFinley HobbinsAlan ArkinJoseph GattSandy Martin, with Michael Keaton as the evil entrepreneur villain. Clearly the elephant is all CGI, but the rest of this looks quite good - though it reminds me of the circus scenes from Burton's Big Fish more than anything else. This first teaser is really wonderful, you might be surprised by how moving this is. Looking forward to seeing more from this. Enjoy.

Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets. Dumbo is directed by filmmaker Tim Burton, of the films BeetlejuiceBatman & Batman ReturnsEdward ScissorhandsEd WoodMars AttacksSleepy HollowBig FishCorpse BrideSweeney ToddAlice in WonderlandDark ShadowsFrankenweenieBig Eyes, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children previously. New US Trailer for Irish Possession Horror Film 'The Devil's Doorway'

The Devil's Doorway Trailer
"The Devil doesn't have to hide. He roams freely amongst us…" IFC Midnight has debuted an official trailer for an Irish horror film titled The Devil's Doorway, which played at the Seattle Film Festival earlier this summer. The film is the feature directorial debut of Aislinn Clarke, and tells the story of two priests who uncover something horrific. In 1960, Father Riley and Father Thornton are sent to investigate a miracle in an Irish home for unwed mothers only to discover that one of the residents is possessed by the devil. The cast of The Devil's Doorway includes Lalor RoddyCiaran FlynnHelena Bereen, and Lauren Coe. The grainy 8mm cinematography style is spooky, but I'm not sure there's anything more to this film than any other possession / exorcism horror before it. If this kind of horror is your thing, then take a look below.

Tye Sheridan in a Teaser Trailer for A.J. Edwards' Film 'Friday's Child'

"You know what we call it?" A teaser trailer has debuted online for a film titled Friday's Child, the latest feature from filmmaker A.J. Edwards, who worked for Terrence Malick as his editor before jumping into making his own films. Tye Sheridan stars as young drifter Richie, fresh out of foster care, trying to figure out what to do with himself. He ends up on the streets involved in petty crime and meets two other people: Joan, played by Imogen Poots, and Swim, played by Caleb Landry Jones. The film's cast also includes Jeffrey Wright and Brett Butler. This looks like a very artsy, powerfully intimate film with some very intense cinematography by DP Jeff Bierman. The score in this trailer is superb, and the footage will pull you in - for whatever you may find in here. This is a good palette cleanser from all the recent Hollywood trailers.
