AQUAMAN – Extended Video – Only in Theaters December 21

"In this trident resides the power of Atlantis…" Are you ready for this? Don't be so harsh on it. Warner Bros has debuted an extended 5-minute preview for James Wan's Aquaman movie, following the full trailer from Comic-Con this summer. This preview dives deep into all kinds of footage, and it looks like it's getting better as they get closer to release. The character of Aquaman, also known as Arthur Curry, first appeared in Zack Snyder's Justice League movie, and this solo feature takes place after the events of that movie. Jason Momoa stars as DC's Aquaman, with Amber HeardNicole KidmanRandall ParkPatrick WilsonDolph LundgrenWillem DafoeGraham McTavishTemuera MorrisonMichael BeachLudi Lin, and featuring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. Even though there's tons of CGI all over this, it still looks cool. The final epic action sequence in this preview is honestly quite awesome. Fire it up below.

Mortal Engines - Official Trailer 2 (HD)

Mortal Engines - Official Trailer 2 (HD)

"Nothing can stand in the face of this…" Universal has released a full-length third official trailer for sci-fi adaptation Mortal Engines, based on a popular book series. This movie has been in the works for years, in development by Peter Jackson and the LOTR/Hobbit team. We've already featured two good trailers for this so far, with this one being the pay off, big time, final push. And it looks seriously epic The fantastically eccentric cast includes Hugo WeavingHera HilmarRobert SheehanJihaeRonan RafteryLeila GeorgePatrick Malahide, and Stephen Lang. The detailed VFX shots from Weta are looking better and better. The plot in this, which still reminds me a bit of Dune, is about huge cities that move around and battle against each other and a woman who threatens everything. This looks, and sounds, like a mix between John Carter and Transformers or something like that. And I'm still curious to give it a look this December.
Here's the third official trailer (+ intl. poster) for Christian Rivers' Mortal Engines, from Uni's YouTube:
You can still watch the first teaser trailer for Mortal Engines here, or the impressive full-length trailer here.
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future. Mortal Engines is directed by Kiwi filmmaker Christian Rivers, a former VFX supervisor and storyboard artist from Weta now making his feature directorial debut. The screenplay is written by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Peter Jackson (of The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings) adapted from Philip Reeve's book series of the same name. BETTER START RUNNING TRAILER - 2018

BETTER START RUNNING TRAILER - 2018

"What kind of moron stops at roadside attractions when we're on the run?" "I just want everyone to have a good time." Freestyle Releasing has debuted an official trailer for an indie crime comedy titled Better Start Running, which premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival this year. This is the latest film from director Brett Simon, who made one of my favorite underrated indie films - Assassination of a High School President in 2008 (read my original review here). Better Start Running is about an ordinary store clerk and a group of misfits who end up on the run driving around without anywhere to go. Alex Sharp stars, with Analeigh TiptonJeremy IronsEdi Gathegi, plus Maria Bello and Karan Soni. This looks totally awkward and not that original. Could be good, could be bad, the footage isn't great. Maybe the film is better.

Here's the first official trailer (+ posters) for Brett Simon's Better Start Running, direct from YouTube:

In Better Start Running, an eclectic band of misfits becomes an unlikely family as they take a wild journey in the name of love while on the run from an overzealous FBI duo who wants to capture them dead or alive - preferably dead. Better Start Running is directed by American filmmaker Brett Simon, of only one other film, Assassination of a High School President in 2008, previously. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Peter Jackson's They Shall Not Grow Old, from Twitter/YouTube:
On the centenary of the end of First World War, Peter Jackson presents They Shall Not Grow Old. Using state of the art technology to restore original archival footage which is more than 100-years old, Jackson brings to life the people who can best tell this story: the men who were there. Driven by a personal interest in the First World War, Jackson set out to bring to life the day-to-day experience of its soldiers. After months immersed in the BBC and Imperial War Museums’ archives, narratives and strategies on how to tell this story began to emerge for Jackson. Using the voices of the men involved, the film explores the reality of war on the front line; their attitudes to the conflict; how they ate; slept and formed friendships, as well what their lives were like away from the trenches during their periods of downtime. They Shall Not Grow Old is directed by Kiwi filmmaker Peter Jackson and Paul Wheatcroft. The film will premiere in the UK first for one night on October 16th this fall. For info & tickets, visit the official websiteInterested?

Assassination Nation [Red Band Trailer] - Fierce - In Theaters September 21

Assassination Nation Trailer
"Who knows? Maybe I'll get pissed off and fight back." Neon has debuted another new red band trailer for the film Assassination Nation, one of the big breakouts from the Midnight category at Sundance earlier this year. From writer/director Sam Levinson, the film is about the town of Salem, Massachusetts and how everyone loses their minds when a hacker releases the entire internet history of everyone in the town. It's much smarter than you think and features some incredible filmmaking and gnarly performances. The cast of rowdy youngsters includes Odessa YoungSuki WaterhouseHari NefAbraAnika Noni RoseColman DomingoMaude ApatowKelvin Harrison Jr., with Bill SkarsgardJoel McHale, and Bella Thorne. The film is also playing at TIFF this week, which is why they're releasing another new trailer to give it a final push. Hopefully this little indie hits it big with audiences when it opens this month.
Here's the second red band trailer (+ green) for Sam Levinson's Assassination Nation, from YouTube
:
In my Sundance review: "It's invigorating, impressive filmmaking that can ignite some spark deep down…"
This is a one-thousand-percent true story about how the quiet, all-American town of Salem, absolutely lost its mind. Description from the Sundance guide: "High school senior Lily and her crew of besties live in a haze of texts, posts, selfies, and chats—just like the rest of us. So when a provocateur starts posting details from the private digital lives of everyone in their small town of Salem, the result is a Category 5 shitstorm. We’re talking browser histories, direct messages, illegal downloads, secret text chains, and way, way, way worse. People get angry. Like, “rampaging murder posse” angry. And Lily finds herself right in the middle." Assassination Nation is both written and directed by American filmmaker Sam Levinson, director of the film Another Happy Day previously. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year in the Midnight category. Neon will release Assassination Nation in select theaters starting on September 21st in the fall.

The Boat Movie

"I am sick of this game!" The first official trailer has launched for a creepy new sailing survival film titled simply The Boat, the feature directorial debut of producer Winston Azzopardi. Starring his own son Joe Azzopardi as the sailor, the film is about a captain who goes out to see and finds an abandoned vessel, but discovers there's something mysterious going on. He ends up locked inside the head of a sailboat which is heading at full steam on autopilot. Where to? There's only one way to find out. This looks creepy and very clever, a bit more than just another lost at sea sailing movie. This is premiering at Fantastic Fest later in the month, which is why this trailer has been released to build some buzz for its premiere there. Worth a watch.

Kursk International Trailer #1 (2018) - Movieclips Trailers

Kursk Trailer

"Captain! We heard something happen to the Kursk?" An international trailer has debuted for a submarine thriller titled Kursk, telling the tragic true story of a Russian submarine stuck at the bottom of the ocean. The ship is deemed unsinkable but explosions on a test run leave it rendered useless, and instead of rescuing the remaining crew, the Russians left it there and wouldn't do anything. Supposedly for political reasons, which is hopefully what this film gets into along with everything else. This harrowing English-language take on the Kursk story features Matthias Schoenaerts, with Léa SeydouxColin FirthMax von SydowAugust DiehlSteven Waddington, and Matthias Schweighöfer. The film is going to have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this weekend, hence the new trailer out now, even though there's no US release yet. This looks damn good, and unfortunately very sad, but I'm still looking forward to seeing it.
Here's the first international trailer (+ poster) for Thomas Vinterberg's Kursk, from

It is the first major Russian Navy exercise since the end of the Soviet Union, but the K-141 Kursk is deemed unsinkable and its crew recognized as the best in the Northern Fleet. Among that crew is Captain-Lieutenant Mikhail Kalekov (Schoenaerts), a devoted naval officer with a loving wife (Seydoux), a child, and another on the way. He and his crew board the Kursk and descend into the Barents Sea with a sense of optimism and fraternity. Then come the explosions. Many lives are lost instantly, but Mikhail and others are safe in one of the sealed rear compartments. They have air and food to last until they are rescued, but when will help arrive? Once the sub's seismic activity is detected, Britain, France, and Norway offer their assistance, but Russia insists it has the situation under control. Time is of the essence, but time keeps passing. Kursk is directed by acclaimed Danish filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg, of the films The Third LieIt's All About LoveDear WendyWhen a Man Comes HomeSubmarinoThe HuntFar from the Madding Crowd, and The Commune previously. The screenplay is written by Robert Rodat. This is premiering at the Toronto Film Festival this month. The film will open in a few European countries in November, but still has no US release date set. Stay tuned for updates. First impression? Looking good?

This looks like it might be the movie fans of the dark symbiote have been waiting for. One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen. From Wikipedia: Development on this Venom film, a spin-off from the Spider-Man franchise, first began with producer Avi Arad in 2007. After going through various iterations, an R-rated standalone film was confirmed in March of 2017. The intention was to begin a new shared universe featuring the Marvel characters to which Sony has the film rights, though Sony also intends for the film to share the world of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is set in the MCU because of a deal between Sony and Marvel Studios. Rosenberg and Pinkner were set to write, with Fleischer and Hardy brought on-board in May 2017. Filming began in October, in Atlanta and New York. Venom is directed by American filmmaker Ruben Fleischer, of Zombieland30 Minutes or Less, and Gangster Squad previously. The screenplay is written by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Kelly Marcel. Sony releases Venom in theaters everywhere starting on October 5th this fall. How does that look?
